Earlier this week, we welcomed our friends from the UK ISAR team for a joint urban search and rescue exercise.
Held at the Home Team Tactical Centre (HTTC) at Mandai from 28 – 30 June, the exercise was conducted together with rescuers from SCDF’s elite Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (DART). The exercise saw the participants conducting a number of challenging exercise scenarios such as search and rescue of a collapsed building, chemical plant incident and a complex height rescue exercise.
The UK ISAR team was led by Commander Russ Gauden. He shared that “The facility (at HTTC) gave a huge test of endurance, skill and attributes for UK ISAR. SCDF are a world leading team and the opportunity to train and exercise alongside them gave UK ISAR colleagues and myself a huge sense of pride.”
Singapore’s hot and humid weather was also an element of challenge for the British rescuers as the climate here is unlike their home country, but we salute them for their perseverance and stamina throughout the exercise!
On top of the hands-on exercise to test their response capabilities, a sharing session was also held where the experts from UK discussed topics relating to search and rescue, such as disaster victim identification.
The joint exercise was an enriching opportunity for both parties to work alongside and learn from each other, in our common mission of protecting and saving lives. To many more years of partnership!
